Practical Driving Test
Before taking your practical driving test you must pass the theory.
The driving test is designed to check your ability to drive safely and apply the rules of the road. Passing the test does not mean you are a good driver, but it does mean an examiner considers you competent enough to drive on your own and continue learning.

Your provisional licence - both parts ie photocard and paper counterpart

What is the examiner looking for on a driving test?
Quite simply a safe drive. This means being fully aware of what's happening around you and showing that you can sensibly respond to situations with courtesy and consideration.
What will the examiner be like?
Driving examiners do not try to trick you or catch you out, in fact they will be as helpful as possible. Because of the nature of the job examiners sit quietly and do not chat too much as this could distract you from your driving.
How long will the test last?
About 40 minutes with at least 35 mins driving.
Does the examiner have pass/fail quota?
NO. - If you drive to the required standard you will pass your test.
Which car do I use for the test?
Normally you will use your instructors car. The car is usually booked for an hour before the test then for the actual test.
What happens if I fail?
At the end of the test the examiner will explain why you were unsuccessful and give you a copy of the test report. It can be useful if your instructor listens to this debrief.
What happens if I pass?
The examiner may offer advice about your driving and will give you a pass certificate - you can now drive on your own!
